Litha Medical Logistics is responsible for the Cold Chain Management within Litha Biotech which incorporates The Biovac Institute and Litha Vaccines.
The Cold Chain Management system has been customised to provide for the transportation and storage of vaccines within a safe and recommended temperature range. i.e.. 2 – 8 ˚C or -20 ˚C and – 25 ˚C.

Litha Medical Logistics is based in Johannesburg, South Africa and covers all 9 Provinces in both the public and private healthcare sectors.

Storage and Distribution of vaccines:

  • 2 - 4 ˚C (Cold Rooms) and -20 ˚C and -25 ˚C (Freezer Rooms)
  • Vaccines stored and distributed at specified temperature range.
  • Stock received from approved supplier, counted and dispatched 
  • The vaccines are stored in qualified freezers and cold rooms and handled by trained warehousing staff

Maintenance:

  • The cold and freezer rooms are maintained at regular intervals according to available procedures.
  • A generator is available in case of power failure.

Temperature Monitoring:  

  • Temperature is monitored using calibrated probes for both monitoring and controlling functions.

Transportation:

  • Vaccines are transported in shippers in a validated, refrigerated truck or otherwise in shippers in a truck at ambient temperature.
  • All drivers are trained and have valid transport licenses

  • Self inspection
  • Non-conformances
  • Corrective and preventative actions
  • Recalls
  • Training

Contractors:

  • Contractors are inspected where applicable and contracts (SLA’s) are available on request.
